Just as this Town Was Going Saucy

It lasted only a few hours but there was a new "adult novelty shop" in town there for a minute. I didn't go out much today (too hot) so I missed it. Apparently they broke some size ordinance, according to the news report. I think there was even a double entendre in that news report. Tell me what you think: "Under the warehouse zoning code owners were allowed a "small" retail area, but Guilty Pleasures has much more." So much more. That's what they always say. I guess we will all have to keep shopping here:

Must Catch

The department of agriculture holds a restaurant competition. Did you know that? Just a reminder that North Carolina is still the kind of a place where you might wander into a hog contest or get an award for growing the biggest squash. (Hey, I'd be pleased to get an award for my tomatoes.) Two of the three restaurants that won are from our own Wilmington. Oddly they are even owned by the same person.

Given the sort of corruption you see elsewhere in the state, I might wonder about that fact. Except that I adore Deluxe, which is one of the winners. The food is lovely (if expensive) but the chocolate martinia is must have. The other winner I haven't tried becasue it opened only last November and I've been hunkering down on this novel when I'm not travelling to avoid it. I propose that we all meet there for dinner.

Hurricane Dean

Are we still waiting on Pender before we can name our little burg? You all know how I am about following rules. If Pender is off on a bender I'm not going to sit around and twiddle my thumbs. I'm with you Harper. Let's go for it. I'll go first: Wilmington, Wilmington, Wilmington, North Carolina. There I did it.

Now to the real news. We are about to get our first hurrucane of the season! There is an official hazardous weather watch posted and everything. And we all know that the real reason we get three days warning on these events is so we can stock up on beer and wine. I know you prefer a shaken martini, Pender, but stock up on the cold stuff anyway. Vodka simply does not have the same urgency when the power goes out. You can't legitimately claim you have to drink all your vodka before it gets warm--though I'm sure that won't stop you. I know it's a long shot that this hurricane will hit us but it never hurts to be prepared. So where is the hurricane party?

Where have you all been?

I'll admit that life took over and the shine went off all this blogging thing. And of course you all know that Harcourt returned to me so all my misery abated--till I realized what jerk he is and asked him to go packing. But I do think this is a great idea and we should keep it going. What do you think? Pender? Harper? Can we find a new purpose? I think we might actually name names and stop hiding where we really live and who our neighbors are. Everyone likes to be famous. So we will make them famous. We could start small. Nothing too dodgy? Nothing that will get Pender sent to prison? What do you think?

In unrelated news (well it has to do with gossip). The star of Veronica Mars--Kristen Bell--is rumored to be starring the new Gossip Girl on the same network. She's not listed in the cast but that's her voice in the videos.
