When we finally made our way to the examination room, I needed somehow to help my 6-year old pee into a cup. It was as if one of those word problems had come alive: you can only leave one child in the examination room and the youngest will absolutely explore every inch of the doctor's bathroom—how do you wipe and hold the pee cup while keeping the toddler at bay? In the end, we were successful in all areas except Petra (in a parting shot to the bathroom?) winged the top of the specimen cup into the toilet.
And what to do when waiting for the examination? Read books? Talk over weekend plans? Discuss school or other family issues? Nah.
When mom puts a kibosh on that? Play hide-and-seek, of course!
Mind you, everyone at the pediatricians' office is wonderful. But I think they may have been a little happy to see us—ALL of us—go.
We ALWAYS do that with the chair. What else can you do?
ReplyDeleteI love when they crawl on the floor and then put their hands in their mouth because you know there are no germs in the room they put you in for a short wait of 20 minutes. And I find it so easy to keep the wee ones entertained for that wait. You make me feel normal Elizabeth and I am glad you are in my life:)
